Day Job: General Manager of a Life skills Centre for young adults with Learning disabilities

I have been working with people with learning disabilities and Autism for 15 years in many different roles. I have been a support worker, a teaching assistant, group leader and more recently I manage a service that is accessed by around 100 young people.

I love working people and I am very lucky that my job has allowed me to do that every day. In my spare time I enjoy playing golf, cooking and the odd DIY project.

I decided to start My Social time during the 2020 Pandemic when I heard stories of many people becoming isolated during lockdowns. We were very lucky to be able to provide a remote service over zoom and knowing how important that was to so many, I wanted to reach out to others that didn’t have that opportunity.

My vision for My Social Time is to be a platform where anyone can engage with their peers in a supported way to avoid peoples social isolation and ultimately loneliness. Currently we are focused on Young people with Learning disabilities and Autism but eventually I would like to expand that into all people at risk of social isolation.
